Geometric Gel Polish Design Tutorial

This video shows a full design across a whole hand using gel polish over an acrylic nail with some free hand painting. The design is a funky geometric design.

Part 1 -

Hi, I'm Kirsty Meakin from Naio nails, in this video I'm going to show you how to do a geometric design using acrylic paints and gel polish. So, so far for this design I've already applied party pants and back to black, just onto those and then the rest are going to be done with some gel polish and some acrylic paints as well. So I've just put some of the gel polishes on to some foil. Just using that simply as a pallet. And then we're going to start doing some design work. I'm going to do an ombre fade on here. So just get a gel brush, pop the bulk of the colour on the end here, turn the brush round and just going to start to sweep that up. I'm just going to take off the excess, and blend that up a little bit more, take off any more, so it's really dry. And just tap that so it blends. Going to pop that into the lamp, cure that for a second. Then we're going to do a second coat of party pants, so the bulk of the product onto the tip again, turn your brush around, start to blend that up, then wipe off some excess, blend that up again, and then wipe off and make the brush really quite dry. And you can start to tap that and it will blend it further. Then we can cure that again. Then we've got pearls a singer, it's a shimmery, clear gel polish. Go right to the cuticle area here, don't flood it. And then we're going to pull this all the way down, to the tip, that's going to add a nice bit of shimmer to that nail. Pop that in, cure that. I'm going to use the mega gloss sealer gel, just to seal this and give it a really smooth finish. Now you could leave that just like that but I'm going to do a little bit of art, on this nail. So we're going to cure that into the LED lamp for one minute. So we've got the ombre on there, all I'm going to do is just wipe over with a little smidge of acetone just to make sure it's really clean, cos' I'm going to paint on top of there. We're going to use a little bit of black acrylic paint and a little bit of white acrylic paint. Little bit of water, just so it flows a little bit easier on the nail. I've got a long detailing brush. And we're going to start at that top corner, and down.Same and down, I'm just going to meet these now, and that's basically our starting point that triangle is. So we're doing a geometric design. Just using the tip of the brush now. Because we've top coated this it'll, the paint will run really smoothly, on the nail, it'll glide which will make everything a little bit easier for you. Going to clean that brush off, and I'm going to use a shorter detailing brush to apply some white. I'm using a shorter brush because i want a little bit more control, i don't want, I'm not doing big long lines, so the longer the line you're going to create, the longer the brush that you'll need. But because we're going to do little sections of colour here, i want something that's shorter, i want a shorter brush for this. So you need a steady hand to keep the sides nice and straight. Make sure you're resting, if you notice these fingers are resting on the hand. It's very small movements with those three fingers. Once your happy with your design, make sure that your paint is all dry. And then you can seal that, with some mega gloss. Make sure you seal all the paint work, right to the edges, don't flood the cuticle and don't touch the skin, if you touch the skin make sure you just sweep that away. So if you touch the skin make sure it's not touching before it goes into the lamp. That can pop in the lamp now, into the LED lamp just for one minute. Just going to finish off with some coconut cuticle oil on that nail, that nail's complete. And then we're going to move on to the other four fingers and we're going to carry on this design.

Part 2 -

So we're still going to use the same theme across all these nails. Going to use some of the silver sparkle, down the center of this nail. Keeping the sides nice and straight. Pop that into the lamp and cure that. Now that's cured, we're going to use a little bit of the white acrylic paint. Go up the sides. Same again the other side. Going to get the smaller brush and use some of the party pants colour. Just going up the sides, I'm not doing a round smile line, I'm doing a straight line from the center up. Same again on this side. Nice and straight here. Right, pop that into the lamp.Just want to take off that sticky layer cos' i just want to put a bit of art on those sides as well. Using the black nail art acrylic paint. Straight up the sides. And down, so you've got two little triangles. Now I've got to do the same on the other side, this is the hardest thing about geometric designs is getting them symmetrical. So I've just put a little mark there so i can see that it's equal to the other side. And that's going to help me to meet that up there. Just going to take a bit of the sticky layer off there, just so i can put a little bit of art. I don't want to paint over the sticky layer. And I'm going to add a little bit of white, with the shorter brush. Just two little triangles. So we're going to seal this with mega gloss sealer gel. Making sure we go over the entire nail to seal all of the art work in. And pop that into the LED lamp for one minute. That's all cured and finished so we're just going to pop a bit of coconut cuticle oil onto that nail. And then we're going to move on to the other nails, so you can see that these two are following the theme.

Part 3 -

Going to use a little bit of the white acrylic paint. Go up the sides. Use a bit of black paint now, to frame that triangle. In the middle here, we're going to use some of the silver sparkle. Just before we pop that into the lamp I'm just going to add a bit more detail. So now I'm going to top coat this with mega gloss sealer gel. Getting close to the cuticle but I'm not flooding it. I'm just making sure I'm covering the whole of the design. And then that can go into the lamp for one minute into LED. Now I'm using some back to black gel polish. Just doing a band straight across this nail. That can go into the lamp and cure. With the white paint, I want you to frame that band. Little bit of the sparkly silver gel polish in the middle of there. Pop that into the lamp and cure that. We're going to add some more detail. We're going to seal that with mega gloss sealer gel. Pop that into the lamp for one minute into LED. That's all cured now, just going to pop a little bit of cuticle oil on there. Give that a rub in. Then we're going to move over onto our last nail.

Part 4 -

And we're going to start with a little bit of white paint. Just make sure that's clean. Again, working with the same theme, so everything's nice and straight. So I'm using a little bit of party pants to go in the middle of this white. Just using it as an art medium. Pop that into the lamp and cure. So I'm just using some of the silver sparkle, just to frame this colour and then we'll also use it to edge and frame this top triangle. And we're going to do some silver triangles here. You want to keep adjusting them until you've got the same size triangle on both sides. And pop that into the lamp and cure. Just want to clean off the gel residue on the triangles, there. A little bit of white paint, we're going to use this on the silver ones here. Going to seal that with the mega gloss. Make sure you're sealing all of the design. And just sweep that brush over the tip, so you're capping that. Pop that into the lamp for a minute and cure. Just going to pop a little bit of cuticle oil on that now to finish it. Then I'm going to have a look at the whole design on all five fingers and look where i want to put any stones or embellishments. I think we're going to put a stud on this one and we'll put some stones on here and here. I'm just going to wipe over with a little bit of gel residue wipe off solution, just so I've got no oil on there. I'm going to put a stud onto this one, we're going to apply that with a little bit of acrylic. Small bead of acrylic in the middle, we're going to pop the stud right onto there. Just going to gently pat that acrylic round the edge, so it's nice and neat, it holds the stud on. With the mega gloss sealer I'm going to put some stones down the center of this nail. Knock some of the silver ones out, there. Pop those on, they're going to stick to that mega gloss. We're going to pop that into the lamp, cure it, that will hold them tight. Then we're going to do the same with the stud, just go round with the mega gloss sealer gel, this is just going to seal around the outside of that stud and hold it on there, nice and tight. So we'll cure those for one minute in the LED lamp. Then we're going to pop stones on here as well. So we're going to use the mega gloss sealer. You don't need a lot. Put one stone there, just to finish that nail. Just check the others, think we're just going to pop one there, at the back of there as well. And they can go into the lamp and cure. You can bob a little bit more cuticle oil on if needed. But that's that full design completely finished.
